Jill Streitwieser
Clay Artist
A broken wrist while show-boating at a roller-skating party when I was
in the 3rd grade forced me to hang up my tambourine and discover other
pathways for creative expression. From an early age, I have had much exposure
to a variety of art forms (not excluding the art of the tambourine) and
have used whatever medium placed before me in uncommon ways.
After having my hands in printmaking, glassblowing and photography, I find
clay as the clearest channel of expressing thoughts and ideas that to me
seem verbally daunting. Life taught, I enjoy experimenting with processes
and combining elements in rule bending fashion. Each day before I descend
to my studio, I lock my editors in the shed and invite my muses to the
room where matter is re-arranged and my soul is nourished.
I thank my soul-matey, Gary who has lovingly accepted clay smudges on every
doorknob and light-switch in the house. I also thank the mole that commutes
to and fro through my studio for keeping me company on those late nights
of listening to the clay. And my muses thank the makers of happy lights
and micro-brewed beer.
