Michigan
photographers Carl R Sams II and Jean Stoick’s wildlife images have
appeared in hundreds of national and international publications. They were
the first photographers ever honored as featured artists at major wildlife
art events and the recipients of the People’s Choice Award for the
best of show 11 times at major wildlife exhibits.
Since the couple began photographing together, Carl and Jean have captured
the essence of the white-tail deer with an impressive library of more than
60,000 photographs. Les Line, then editor of Audubon magazine, wrote in his
column, “they are, quite simply, the most remarkable and extraordinarily
beautiful images of the All American Deer that have ever been captured on
color film.”
They also spent six summers photographing the common loon, taking more than
20,000 pictures documenting loon behavior. An article in Birder’s World commented that, “Carl Sams and Jean Stoick have captured the haunting
beauty of loons on film like no one before them.”
They are best known for their award-winning children’s books and movies.
With charming stories intertwined with captivating photography, Lost
in the Woods, and Stranger in the Woods have warmed the hearts of children of all
ages and won more than 50 national and international awards.
