Born
and raised in Franklin, Michigan, Dan attended the Detroit Society of Arts
and Crafts. After receiving his BA from Michigan State University, he attended
graduate school at Western Michigan University.
Oberschulte has been influenced mainly by American and European artists of
the late 19th century. Working mostly in oils, his subject matter includes
landscapes, interiors, figural, an portraits. His works hang in private collections
in the United States, Bahamas, Spain, Austria, Germany and France.
Dan’s love of travel provides him with opportunities to paint scenery
ang people of French villages, Tuscan hillsides, and the dramatic Lake Michigan
coastline, and it’s quite interior.
Dan maintains studios in Traverse City and the coastal village of Empire,
Michigan, where he paints, sculpts, and restores antique oil paintings.
