MAG is happy to announce its spring show asking over 30 artists to interpret Daniel Belardinelli’s “The Art of Coming Undone” in their own media and style. Daniel is a well known New York outsider artist who boldly takes on difficult subject matter with both humor and humanity in his work.
He has been making art since childhood. Encouraged by his family, drawing kept him occupied during the many after-school hours he spent in the two restaurants his father’s family owned in Manhattan. These establishments were frequented by popular entertainers such as Groucho Marx and Tony Bennett, as well as successful horse racing jockeys and the occasional Mafia kingpin. Meeting such people was routine for the young Belardinelli, who regularly eavesdropped on the animated conversations in the bar. His paintings are often done using nail polish & gesso and capture his colorful and honest views of life in the often nittier grittier slices of our world.
His drawings caught attention from an art dealer in Soho in the mid 80’s, after which Belardinelli began a successful career in Europe and the United Sates. He currently has a year long show at the American Visionary Museum in Baltimore. His work has regualrly been shown at the Outsider Art Fair in New York City, Folk Fest in Atlanta, Georgia, South by Southwest in Austin, Texas and is hung in galleries throughout the United States and Europe.
